appealed to the then Secretary of State for the Colonies with the result that Leases for 999 years were granted for these Lots.
8. With this precedent before us, we venture to express the hope that, endorsing our contention that these Shaukiwan Lots are part and parcel of the Dockyard Establishment over the whole of which uniform conditions as regards duration of Lease should prevail, your Lordship will be pleased to invite the Government of Hong Kong to reconsider its decision, and to give instructions that 999 year Leases, both for Shaukiwan Inland Lot 408 and for Shaukiwan Marine Lots 2 to 10, shall be granted us, for we are advised that, in inviting the public to apply for Mortgage Debentures which will be secured on all the land owned by the Company which is to be formed to take over our Dockyard Works, we should be prejudiced if a small portion of the land were held on a short Lease while the large part consists of land held for 999 years.
